We Owe you a Legacy
Made and performed in collaboration with Dejonie Langallier and Amanda Oyebusola Ajomale.
supported by and PERFORMED AT THE YARD THEATRE AND CAMDEN PEOPLE’S THEATRE
We Owe You A Legacy was a tender and brutal examination of the role of the Mother figure in building a post colonial future for black women. It takes a look at how expectaion in black imigrant families is placed on the shoulders of the daughter. Using aural history, sisterhood and inherited cooking practices. The performance is a slow and reflective attempt to treat the mother and the daughter figures as mythical creatures in the space, where home is questioned and striving for a successful life is turned over by three figures in the space who feed the audience, address the audience and perform mundane rituals of nurture.
